It’s time for a new review as I’ve not written one for a while – although I have plenty on my list! Anyway, today it’s all about an app called Readmio.
A family friendly app with a great USP
I stumbled across this app last week and boy am I glad I did! Readmio is a reading app with built-in sound effects triggered by voice. It’s a great addition to our daily reading time and is going to give us all hours of fun.
With the exception of downloading the stories, the app works completely offline. The stories are all timeless fairytales and fables. They are categorised by age which makes it much easier to find suitable choices. As you read, your voice triggers the sound effects which fit seamlessly into the story. The result is a unique and memorable experience for your child/children.
Reading to our kids is one of the most important things we can do as parents. Apps such as Readmio help your child to engage in the story – especially if they struggle with focusing on a story.
Traditional favourites
The stories range in age from 3-5 years to 5-8 and all the way through to 8-11. There is something for every child who still loves to cuddle up with mum/dad and be read to before bed. Some of the best known stories include Jack and the Beanstalk, The Little Mermaid, The Little Match Girl, Thumbelina and Snow White. However the list is endless and includes traditional Aesop’s Fables as well as folktales from Europe, China and India.
The basic free package allows the user to download the app and read along with sound effects. The novelty of this is reason alone to download this app, but for anyone who would like to take it a step further, I highly recommend you pay to unlock premium features. The premium version has a record function to use and play the stories at any time.
Record your own
I recorded a story yesterday and played it in the car to surprise my kids. It was so much fun to watch their faces turn from skepticism to surprise to pure joy as they realised what I’d done! It was as if I’d recorded my very own professional audio book!
I honestly can’t recommend this app highly enough – it’s great fun, encourages family bonding time and promotes good traditional storytelling. My older two girls love the record feature and have spent all weekend recording their own readings – a great use of screen time!
For more information, you can download the app from the iOS store here, the Android store here or click here to be taken to the website.
