So here we are over halfway through 2020 and what a bloody disaster it’s been! Would be handy if we could just write it off and come back afresh in Jan 2021!! As we are well and truly saying goodbye to lockdown, it’s a chance for me to reflect on the past 6 months.

It was going to be the year where I really won at adulting. Instead I have successfully managed to create dozens of bad habits for us all that now need to be broken. I had so many grand plans in January and have failed at them all:

  • Sew my way through my list of soft furnishings
  • Redecorate the entire house on my own
  • Reacquaint myself with my abs
  • Become an organizational guru
  • Be on time

I’ve just about managed to stay sane during lockdown, have been late or missed all appointments and tore my rotary cuff making all but basic exercise impossible!

So… my new grand plan is to be more realistic in my planning. I have since edited my ‘to do’ list accordingly and now have 5 ½ months to:

  • Make 1 new cushion cover (or just buy the material)
  • Start to paint the house (or stick more drawings up from the kids to cover the marks)
  • Find my abs (even just one)
  • Use my planner for appointments
  • Look at my planner
  • Understand that not everywhere I need to be is just ’15 minutes away’

Surely even I can manage that!?  The kids will be back to school in a month, playdates, sports activities and clubs have already started back and the mayhem of homeschooling is now far behind me.

People have these life-changing moments and I was convinced lockdown was going to be mine. I guess some things will never change and I suppose I’m actually ok with that. It’s time to accept that 2020 is not going to be the year I don my overalls and give the house a full makeover. And if I’m honest, I’m so bad at time management that being stuck indoors for a couple of months without having to be anywhere at a certain time was never going to help!

However, I have learned a few things about myself that I wasn’t aware of before Covid struck: I’m a really terrible teacher, I touch my face all the time, I was really lax at handwashing, I really rather liked not having anywhere to be and being on time has nothing to do with leaving the house. I was still late for appointments and didn’t leave the house for 2 months!

Still, things could be far worse!
